Construction activities for the powerhouse assembly officially commenced in June 2025. We are grateful to CCB Envico, the selected contractors, who undertook the assembly of the Powerhouse from its modular components and worked tirelessly through the installation of the floor panels and the erection of the steel columns by early October.
Subsequently, the work included installing roofing, wall cladding and doors, electrical wiring, commissioning the gantry crane, final integration of modules, and constructing the main entrance ramp and doorsteps. The work was completed prior to Christmas 2025, with minor defects rectified in January and February.
PUB has now re-taken possession of the site and is managing connections to essential services, including electricity, water, and sewerage. We are constructing drainage support for water tanks, constructing the slabs for the fuel tanks and commissioning the fencing works around the Betio compound.
Two new Cummins generators were acquired with the assistance of Government funding in late 2025. These units arrived on site in March and have since been placed inside the Powerhouse. We have also transported another generator from Bikenibeu to sit inside the Powerhouse. We now await exhaust and fuel tank components before these generators can be fully connected to the grid. Following delays from the manufacturer, we now anticipate completion in late June and commissioning by late July 2026.
We plan for the remaining site works for the Powerhouse to coincide with this time frame, so that by August/September the Powerhouse will be fully operational, with 3 generators contributing to the main grid network.
