Quality water in quantity is coming your way.

As part of the interim commissioning of the McKenzie desalination plant, PUB has agreed that the plant should run at capacity for the month of March. This will provide important operational data for the plant, allow PUB to test the existing (leaky) network, and see how much quality water we can get through to consumers.

This is a testing experience that may result in amendments during the month. This means no formal water rationing during March. Still, we might have to intervene if there is too much water for the tanks, or too little is getting through the network to Betio, or there are any issues at the various outlets and take-off points within communities.

We ask for your patience and support during this time as we, with the support of the government, donor partners, and all involved in the STWSP project, test-run the plant for the community's long-term benefit.

Your water storage and consumption patterns may change. We want to understand behavioural changes in water use and welcome your feedback.

At the end of March, PUB will revert to water rationing while we and our STWSP partners analyse the data and make operational adjustments.

We will keep the public informed and communicate more as the STWSP project develops and we progress closer to a continuous supply of quality water.
