Mauri all valued PUB customers
We advised several weeks ago of a pending tariff increase.
Tariffs have remained static for many years despite rising operations costs. Past tariffs have failed to provide sufficient funding for generation and network maintenance costs.
We are mindful of service delivery challenges in the last quarter of 2024. The multiple generators that experienced faults and parts failures can be attributed to the past period’s lack of funding for relevant preventative maintenance. There is no magic solution, but with an additional budget, the continued support of the government and development partners, and PUB’s decision to bring in 2MW of additional electricity capacity, we are hopeful of better services this year.
Tariffs will increase substantially to achieve this and manage the 64% increase in our diesel price.
Please be assured that PUB has done its best to keep increases as low as possible. Subject to the movement of the diesel price, we remain optimistic that tariffs will decrease in the future, given the anticipated investments to improve PUB’s technical losses and the introduction of more solar power in the coming years.
Revised tariffs effective from 20 February 2025 will be:
Domestic Customers | |
Lifeline rate for selected customers Up to 100 kWh per month | $0.150* |
Up to 300 kWh per month | $0.616 |
More than 300 kWh per month | $0.847 |
Non-Domestic Customers |
|
Commercial | $0.847 |
Industrial | $1.078 |
Government & SOE | $1.078 |
*Customers who have consistently used less than 100 kWh per month for each of the past 3 months attract this “lifeline” tariff. Where a customer on this tariff exceeds 100 kWh per month the tariff will be adjusted on a quarterly basis.
Customers paying a higher tariff, but who consistently use less than 100 kWh per month will attract the lifeline tariff for the next quarter.
Customers regularly using more than 100 kWh per month will pay the higher tariff

Dear Valued Customers,
We regret to inform you that, due to the recent increase in fuel prices by KOIL, a tariff adjustment may become unavoidable in the coming weeks. This adjustment will affect all customer categories, including Domestic, Commercial, and Industrial users.
The increase is necessary not only due to the rising fuel costs charged to PUB but also to ensure the sustainability of our operations and our ability to continue providing reliable services to all customers.
The new tariff rates will be determined based on the revised fuel prices.
We appreciate your understanding of this challenging situation. We remain committed to serving you and thank you for your continued support.
Happy New Year to you all.

This has been very great news while the roll out of our Prepaid meters are in full swing! Yes, you read it right, you can now use Vodafone to redeem your Prepaid tokens.
This used to be only available on OceanLink. With the move to change all our clients to Prepaid, we saw the need to offer more options for Purchasing Vouchers and Redeeming your tokens for your meters.
Keep watching this space as the online version is also just around the corner!
The online version will allow customers to view past transactions, update your email, mobile and other details. If you have a Prepaid Meter, you will also be able to purchase prepaid vouchers and and redeem it online rather than through 555.. another option, but coming soon.
More News soon...

Yes, we know you’ve heard this before!
PUB intended to roll out new prepaid electricity meters in October 2023 – that’s a year ago! What happened?
Well firstly, the meters didn’t arrive. Then we realised that more tools and materials were required to safely install these meters. We planned and procured the same, but it took some time to agree on how to do this and to acquire the necessary funding. At the same time, we sought expertise to lead the rollout and installation program. Our expert will arrive in Tarawa in 3 weeks …… Finally, we’re ready to roll!
As customers are converted to prepaid meters, it is important that you understand how to acquire the necessary tokens and how to load the meter. It’s similar (but not identical) to buying mobile data tokens…. you spend $$ to buy a token/digital #.... only when you load the token/digital #, and tell the phone what plan you want, do you get access to data or calls. We don’t have plans, so it’s even simpler…. just load the token and the power (KwH) availability is automatic.
Tokens can be purchased from PUB offices in Betio, Bairiki and Bikenibeu. But the best way to purchase tokens will be here soon – on our website. The link will take you directly to our billing software and credit your account.
But remember, your token isn’t convertible or interchangeable….it is a unique code that can only be used to update your meter.
When purchasing tokens, you will need your meter # and your account #.
You can also add credit through the ANZ app, under ANZ Pay Bills, crediting your PUB account. This will then allow you to purchase tokens for your meter from within your Customer Portal.
Information about the rollout will be provided here, on the website as the rollout plan is developed and updated. Please keep checking for advice as to when your area will be scheduled.
