STREP October 2025 Update

by | Aug 2025 | STREP

Construction work on the PV arrays and panels at the STREP and the STWSP sites at Bonriki are progressing well and nearing completion, as per the following table

Work is now focused on completing the transformer and cable connectivity and on the Control Centre building.

There remains work to complete the building, the control centre switching gear, and the computerised setup, with design, commissioning, and installation planned over the next 4–6 months.

PUB will not be able to utilise all the potential electricity generated until a new 33 kVa transmission line is built under STREP 2. After a failed tender earlier in 2025, it is being re-tendered later in October, and all stakeholders expect a positive outcome with award and mobilisation in Q1 2026.

Once the Control Centre is commissioned, PUB hopes to achieve up to 2MW of solar PV penetration and take the renewable energy mix to 20% as a first stage with the new transmission line in 2027, increasing that capacity significantly.
