We’re excited to share the latest progress on the Powerhouse Assembly project, which has been steadily advancing since site works began in June 2025.
Background:
The powerhouse materials arrived in December 2023 and were safely stored at the Betio Sports Complex until construction began.
Progress Highlights:
- June: Site preparation kicked off with the removal of excess materials and excavation for heavy-duty footings.
- July: Assembly began with the installation of pedestals and footings carefully placed above the water table on a concrete base. Retaining walls followed, and the interior was filled and compacted with reef mud to prepare for the floor slab.
- August to October: Floor panels were installed, followed by the erection of steel columns. The gantry crane and modules were successfully positioned inside the structure. Most of the structural framework is now complete.
- November: Roofing is expected to be completed this week.
What’s remaining (November–December):
- Installation of wall cladding and doors
- Electrical wiring and commissioning of the gantry crane
- Final integration of modules
- Concrete pouring for fuel tanks
- Construction of the main entrance ramp and doorsteps
- Minor rust treatment and steel touch-ups
- Connection of essential services: electricity, water, and sewer
Status:
The project is on track, completion work for the powerhouse super structure is expected by early December 2025. Regular inspections continue to ensure quality and safety as well as compliance throughout the construction process.
